FILM REVIEW (MINORITY REPORT)

WHAT IS THE BASIC PLOT LINE OF THE MOVIE?
The basic plot line of this movie revolves around precrime investigation during the year 2054, special beings known as precogs envision the future and are being used by Precrime to stop crime, If the precogs say it will happen, then it will happen. And according to the law, crime is as much in the intent as in the execution. The crime in this case is murder.. But not only does this movie revolve around the future, It also takes us to the past and present while focusing on the life of one character John Anderton (Tom Cruise) Head of Precrime, who is driven to despair by the loss of his son years ago.

WHAT DID YOU FIND IMPRESSIVE OR UNIMPRESSIVE ABOUT THE MOVIE?

the smooth course of the laser-etched balls with the names of perpetrator and victim, to  John Anderton's playful hands dancing over a virtual display(Technology-very impressive) and the character of the precog(AGATHA) very nicely protrayed.  But firstly we see(according to how it has been shown in the movie) that the process of justice in 2054 has almost become like a dance. Murder has been eliminated; only the game of murder remains. and secondly the story itself ultimately takes a shallow approach to the moral ambiguities of its premise. Indeed, the very title of the film itself, gets buried in a routine "catch the bad guy" final act that erases John Anderton's moral responsibility.(Not impressive)

The relationship between the context (architecture/technology) displayed and the story.
Does it fit the plot of the story?
From my point of view i would say that the Architecture being portrayed in this movie did not resemble with the type of technology that was being utilized, except for some scenes example cars droven vertically downwards on buildings and the main precrime headquartes which is advanced. other than that , most of the scenes show architecture of the past(simple) but technology of the future.

What do you think was the intention/message of the film? And, do you feel the
intention/message of the film was successful?

The intention of this film was to show to people that a person's past always has a reflection on the future, and no matter how hard someone tries, no one can change the past , but it shows that every person always has a choice, and so to choose wisely ,for survival.
and the message according to me was very successful, since it shows John chose not to shoot crow ( which eventually lead to his survival) and so found peace with his wife and his past by being proven innocent.

Do you think that movies like these have an impact of design thinking?

Movies like minority report have quite a big impact on design, and the first questions that pops in to the head is why?....and..how???
the technology as can be seen being utilized in the movie are actually known to be concepts and concepts lead to design. example, the cars are not of ordinary design but are concept cars designed by good designers. so concepts like those have a very big impact on thinking as a designer.
